EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVA

The 2022 Growing Season was characterized by very wet weather late into the spring, a three week-later-than-average bud break, two mid-April frost events, the first more severe than the second, all followed by humidity throughout the summer leading to mildew pressure unlike anything seen by the industry in recent memory. To add insult to injury, the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon also saw July hail storms. There were, however, not one but two pieces of extreme good fortune that ultimately lead to outstanding quality in the 2022 vintage: a high fruit set and good fruitfulness in many secondary buds made up for losses to frost for many if not most vineyards, and autumn rains by and large stayed away until late October, a happy shock to growers and winemakers who spent the harvest season looking over their shoulders expecting the clouds to open at any moment. By the time the true Oregon rains finally came, the vast majority of winegrapes were harvested, with most fruit coming into wineries 2-3 weeks later than in most recent vintages.

Why choose us?

A Storied Vineyard

What makes Amity so unique are the nearly 50-year-old own-rooted vines. They’ve had decades to work through the thin topsoil to dig deep into the ground and access these ancient nutrient-deprived soils. The combination of the vine's age, the absence of artificial inputs, and dry farming practices mean they are naturally low yielding. When vines have a lower crop load they can devote more resources to the grapes which leads to a better concentration of flavor.
